Review: Full Body Sugaring at Lavender Spa, Amman
Disclaimer: If you think that sugaring or talking about sugaring is 3ayb (not done, bad), then please move your mouse to the upper right corner and close my blog. DON’T CONTINUE READING!
Two days ago, I opened my mailbox to find that Fustuq offered 50% discount for a full body sugaring at Lavender Spa, the spa of Quality Suites in Medina al Monawarah street. I thought it was the chance for me to experience the Arabic tradition of sugaring. I immediately bought the offer and made an appointment for the next day.
So yesterday, after a long day of stressing out thinking about the pain this will cause, I headed to the spa. The security staff at the entrance of the hotel was very kind and smiling and directed me to the first floor. When entering the spa, the girls all looked so perfect. I felt like… an elephant in a porcelain cabinet. I came straight from work, wearing a jeans and some old sneakers, without any make up. I was guided to the waiting room, was served a cup of tea and “La vie en Rose” from Edith Piaf was playing on the background. The ambience was very relaxed and the spa was very quiet. I was enjoying the silence after a busy day at the office.
Then the big moment: They called me inside the treating room. The girls working in the spa were mostly Filipinos and the one that would torture me in the next 90 minutes was Grace. She gave me a small plastic bag and told me to go into the next room to change. The bag contained disposable underwear. I knew before going to the spa that I would have to somehow undress me but now the moment had arrived I didn’t really know what to do. I felt uncomfortable, but I think that anyone with an ED (Eating Disorder) would have felt uncomfortable in my shoes.
The very first she’d start I was all tense, but luckily for me, she was working from toes to head so the least painful part was first. I think if she would have started with my armpits I would have run away as fast as I could. In general the pain was not that much, except for the areas that are more sensitive. I mostly coped as Grace was entertaining me with stories of customers that were crying, screaming, cursing… I guess I’m not as much of a pussy as I thought.
Overall score: I’d say 8.5 out of 10. Reason:
- There was no shower gel in the shower except for an (almost) empty sample from the hotel.
- She missed a few hairs.
Now that I know that I can support the pain of sugaring, I think I’ll try to teach myself how to do sugaring and next time, I’ll try it at home.
