A couple of weeks ago, the Mister and I went to see “Gone Girl”. Please don’t ask me more about it. I entered the movies that evening filled with expectations after a fellow cinephile rated this movie 9 out of 10 on IMDb and I left very pissed off. And I was pissed off for days after it. All that anger resulted in me rating it a 6, which is very average for such “a big production”.
However, while waiting for the movie to start I saw the trailer of “The Drop”, which will be released later this week here in UAE. And that trailer, sadly enough, was the highlight of my evening. Not only is the director, Michael Roskam, Belgian, but:
1. it features the late “The Sopranos”-star James Gandolfini.
2. it has Matthias Schoenaerts in one of the leading roles (and yes, ladies, he’s at least as much eyecandy as Tom Hardy!)
If you haven’t heard about Schoenaerts before, rush over to his IMDb-page and read what he’s been up to this last couple of years. Not only is he big in Belgium, but he was playing the leading role in “Bullhead”, which was nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign Movie back in 2012. He also won 9 other awards. He’ll be also playing one of the leading roles in “The Loft”, a Hollywood remake of the Belgian movie with the same name, to be released in January 2015.
You don’t have to believe me when I say that he’s an excellent actor. But see it for yourself later this week in VOX or NOVO cinemas around the UAE. Here’s the trailer to get you all excited!
